How to avoid, and detox from, plastics

Microplastics have been found in human stools, blood, brain tissue, the gut and liver.

Here are some strategies that might help reduce exposure to microplastics

  • Eat fresh, unprocessed (one ingredient) foods

  • Avoid foods packaged in or stored in plastic

  • Avoid drinks that come in plastic bottles, styrofoam or cardboard coffee cups

  • Stop using plastic containers for food storage

  • Alfoil and baking paper are all lined with plastic

  • Avoid clothing made from plastic, choosing natural fibres

  • Use water filters that target microplastics eg reverse cycle osmosis

  • Drink plenty of clean, filtered water to support elimination

  • Consume a diet rich in antioxidants ie, fruits, vegetables, to support detoxification

  • Engage in regular physical activity and sweat regularly

  • Saunas may help eliminate some toxins

  • Support policies and practices to reduce plastic use and pollution in your environment

Unfortunately, the body's ability to detoxify from plastics and microplastics is limited as they can accumulate in tissue, so avoidance is paramount.m But we can do what we can!
