How imbalanced gut flora prevent weight loss

An inability to lose weight when you're doing 'everything right', has become common.

This is another reason why it could be happening to you, although there are many more I've already talked about...

...an imbalanced gut.!

Your gut is vital to your health. Bacteria there number ten times more than human cells, and most of our DNA belongs to them, not us. It's also the home of 70+ per cent of our immune system.

Dysregulated gut flora such as these are associated with disease like mental health problems, autoimmune conditions, diabetes, cancer

  • Undergrowths of good bacteria

  • Overgrowths of opportunistic or pathogenic bacteria

  • And a lack diversity

ome bad bacteria also cause low-grade inflammation, which can contribute to insulin resistance, meaning your body stores energy as inflammatory and toxic fat.

You can see the vicious cycle.

Also, some bad bacteria can contribute to diabetes and metabolic syndrome by increasing insulin production, again leading to insulin resistance and weight gain.

The inflammatory actions of this bacteria may also create leptin resistance by inflaming your brain. Unable to receive the signal that you're full, you continue to feel hungry and over eat.

What's more, some bad bacteria can increase your appetite. Even if you reduce your food intake, they continue to promote insulin resistance and the inflammatory cycle, even leading to more serious health issues like mentioned above.

Finally, your gut bacteria can increase the rate at which you use fatty acids and carbohydrates, increasing your fat storage. Basically, if two people eat the same food, the one with bad bacteria will take more calories from it and put more weight on.

The solution?

  • Eradicate bacterial & other gut infections

  • Build up good bacteria by eating fibre & healthy fats

  • Eat a low inflammatory diet i.e. cut out or lower sugar, refined carbs, processed seed oils, gluten & dairy for some

  • Eat adequate well-sourced protein
