Oestrogen problems - could it be your ESTROBOLOME?

An important function of your gut flora is to regulate oestrogen levels via your estrobolome, a collection of gut microbes that metabolise (transform) oestrogens. They do this by producing beta-glucuronidase, an enzyme (catalyst) that turns oestrogens into their active forms.

This active oestrogen then binds to receptors throughout your body to carry out many important physical processes involving fertility, mood and more.

But when your gut flora is imbalanced, beta-glucuronidase activity is changed, meaning your oestrogen levels can become too low or high.

Excess oestrogens are mostly excreted from the body via bile and liver function in the stool. But normal liver detoxification of oestrogens can be reversed with high levels of beta-glucuronidase. Your body will then recirculate the oestrogen it intended to carry out, leading to oestrogen dominance.
