What's the best way to eat?
Often people tell me they're totally confused about what to eat. For example
Is fat good or bad?
Should you go vegan or carnivore?
Is fasting dangerous or life saving?
Are carbs really that bad?
My answer – as non-commital and annoying as it is – is it that is depends on
Your health goals
What dysfunction or disease you're experiencing
Who you are i.e. what changes are you willing to make?
What stage of life you're in e.g. a woman trying to get pregnant, and ageing man with brain fog, a woman in peri-menopuase, or a child with asthma
Your genetics, which can be measured
And so much more!
For example, if you...
Suffer from certain gut conditions, refraining from high FODMAP foods or going carnivore can be helpful while we resolve the root cause
Have slow thyroid issues you need some good carbs
Have tried everything but can't lose weight, have a persistent immune issue or have a cancer diagnosis, properly-managed longer fasting can be incredibly beneficial
Suffer from a metabolic or brain disorder, going keto has been shown to be healing
Are a baby or child with eczema, you would cut common like dairy, wheat and soy while you resolve underlying gut health problems
Have CIRS or mould illness you would avoid high histamine and oxalate foods, and likely eat low amylose for a while
React to any foods, you would again look at why (usually thsi is gut health related) and resolve the cause
What you put into your body is important. It's your fuel, sustenance and energy. Your mood, brain health, and weight. It’s what you cells are made of, which are your body's building blocks!
But it all gets down to bio-individuality.
There is no one best diet.
There is no one single thing!
Because we're all unique, complex beings who need something different depending on what stage of life we're in and on any healing that needs to be done.
