What's with cellulite and ageing?
We all know what cellulite is, but what is it, and why does it matter?
Cellulite is stored fat. It’s more common with ageing as the skin loses elasticity, but it could indicate underlying health issues.
Cellulite occurs when the fibrous connective cords that attach skin to our underlying muscle contain underlying fat. This fat pushes up against the skin while the long, tough cords pull down.
There are 3 types of cellulite
Soft cellulite – found in sagging skin on the arms, stomach, hips, buttocks, legs; not always visible
Hard cellulite – compact; orange peel look; can be painful
Edematous cellulite – comes with poor circulation on lower legs, thighs and knees; may be painful
As you can start to see, cellulite could indicate health issues because fat stores substances that could threaten our body like…
Excess sugar and the hormone insulin
Excess oestrogen
Toxins like heavy metals
So how do you get rid of cellulite?
Lose weight
Do more weight lifting
Do aerobic exercise to improve circulation
Try massage, lymphatic drainage, dry skin brushing, magnesium baths, saunas
Fast for 36 hours every quarter, but responsibly (not for everyone)
Try protein cycling eating 30g of protein (not just the food, but the protein content) every 2 hours
Reduce toxins like obesagens, phthalates, food sprays, toxic self-care products
Detox your liver – I offer a cleanse called PURIFY
Eat real food, cutting out refined carbs like flour and sugar and processed seed oils, adding in a diversity of vegetables and some fruit, pastured/wild caught proteins and good fats
Add in collagen (watch oxalates), bromelain, proteolytic enzymes, green tea extract
Topical skin scrubs containing coffee grounds and some oils may reduce its appearance by improving blood flow and tightening the skin
