my story
I’m someone who experienced difficult-to-diagnose symptoms. Among other challenges, I developed fibromyalgia-type arthritis in my late teens after living in Southeast Asia, am overcoming nerve pain in my hands and feet that resulted in muscle weakness and sleeplessness, and after moving into an 1880 house, contracted mould toxicity or CIRS. At one time I was also told I had depression, for years got migraines twice weekly, and at various times experienced gynaecological, thyroid and hormonal issues.

I understand what it’s like to undure the pain and exhaustion from overlooked, misdiagnosed, undiagnosable or stigmatised conditions. Before I became a nutritional therapist and began studying functional medicine I spent a lot of time and thousands of dollars seeking answers, trying unhelpful drugs and having unnecessary medical procedures and surgeries. I also know how terrifying it is to feel emotionally not yourself.
At one point, I wondered if I was ever going to be able to work full time again because I felt so awful and drained.
Becoming a Yoga Teacher, Health Coach, Nutritional Therapist, Psych-K Practitioner, and now a Functional Medicine Practitioner (looking at the foundational way nutrients, lifestyle and the mind affect the body at a cellular and genetic level) with lab testing training have been instinctive steps in my journey. I believe I would be much sicker, if not bedridden, had I not done this and definitely unable to work, which was my life for a while. Now I see clients, help my family, exercise and much more!
This is how I turned this around, in part because I couldn’t just take a pill, which is never usually a long-term cure anyway. Resolving chronic health issues takes time and commitment, trial and error. I did this by seeking out the root causes of my symptoms, spending a lot of time researching and understanding chronic illness, including the impact of diet, toxins and lifestyle.
My pathway has involved overcoming gut permeability and infections, SIBO, food and environmental sensitivities, CIRS, fibromyalgia type pain, oxalate hypersensitivity, adrenal exhaustion, histamine sensitivity, hEDS and negative subconscious beliefs.
Lately I’ve been focusing more on understanding and resolving the impact that menopause is having on my body, including autoimmunity post CIRS (thanks mould) and weight gain. I’m seeing significant health improvements and my weight is down 9kg with more to go.
I know first hand the fear and frustration you might be feeling about the way ongoing illness and weight gain can change your life. I understand the process of grief when you have to change your diet and lifestyle, and conflict with your own body changes, and what it takes to switch your mindset to one of gaining health. I get how we can stop believing in our body and our self.
