Is your produce – inlcluding organic – coated in Apeel
Apeel is now approved for use on all fresh produce in Australia, without a requirement to label it.
It’s marketed as a ';plant-based' way to extend shelf life, but the formulation is proprietary, safety data is limited, and long-term effects haven’t been studied.
Right now, there’s no public evidence it’s being used here—but without labels, you wouldn’t know.ut we all have the right to know what’s on our food. Ask your retailer.
Ask your retailer or supplier directly whether they use Apeel. Choose transparent ones. Coles emailed me to say they are not using it on any produce. Woolworths have not responded.
Stick with organic-certified providers who confirm they don’t use coatings.
Favour local markets or small growers, who tend to be more transparent.
